As Bishop for the Missionary Diocese of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and as a follower of the Lord of mercy, Jesus Christ, I reject all calls to refuse Syrian refugees asylum. If we are to call ourselves a Christian country, let it be because of our expression of love towards those in need, regardless of their religion or nationality.
Here is what our Lord Jesus Christ has said concerning what God our Father wants from us: “go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’’ (Matthew 9:13), and in that same Holy Bible: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Mark 8:34)
Remember also, those who fear the Lord and want to serve Him. Many will be “put…on trial…[and the Lord] will be quick to testify …against those who…deprive the foreigners among you of justice…” (Malachi 3:5)
